On 30 June 2002 the participants presented the projects they had been working on for the last couple of months. The presentations were running simultaneously in nine groups and continued the next day."There was a great difference between participant projects, since some projects were really great and you could see that some were improvised," said Mr. Karl Brachtl, the Group F chair-person, "but it was ok, except for the tight schedule!"The projects focused on sustainable mobility and ICT issues in the different countries. Based on the presentations, all of the delegates have begun to create recommendations for achieving sustainable development. These recommendations will be included in a Youth Declaration which will be presented by the end of this convention. Youths have raised their voices again. It is possible the declaration will be heard at the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg. Hopefully, the voices will not be gone with the wind!

Some reflections by Luisa Viglietta

The Caretakers Convention in Pracatinat has collected 80 delegations projects in a Pre-convention Book that is meant to be a useful tool for the participants to get to know each other, to exchange their work and to take advantage from the opportunity to meet with other students coming from all over the world. More than 50 countries are represented and the total number of participants is 350 - as many as the Pracatinat centre can host. The activities are coordinated by international trainers via the CEI Board. Presentations from the students were very varied - some using sophisticated technology, other more simple but with a very strong message. All of them quite interesting and well prepared. We have all worked really hard to prepare this event, and looking to the results so far, our work was worthwhile. We hope to have some influence on the political level and attention from the media. Tomorrow there will be the topic moment as far as visibility is concerned with the ceremony at the Fenestrelle Fort. We hope it will be a success. We also hope that at the World Summit in Johannesburg, the governments of the world shall be enough determinate and put the financial and human resources needed to put in practice the Kyoto protocol. Young people here dream of a better world; let us hope that this event would contribute to convert the dream in reality.

The Fort Le Fenestrelle

When the participants of the convention gathered at the Pracatinat and started to climb the hill, they hardly knew that under their feet was an ancient settlement from the bronze age. The place itself was named after the French general Catinat's army that put up tents in the fields called "pra." After the victory over the French army, the duke of Savoi decided to build Fort Le Fenestrelle, one of the biggest in the world. The Fort Le Fenestrelle, which is a series of redoubts and blockhouses connected together with magnificent stairway of 4000 steps, will be the location of the Earth Ceremony. This event will take place on the 2nd of July, which will symbolize the 'new era' of this magnificent place.
